How To Shuck Oysters

Love oysters but never known how to shuck them?

Start by giving your oysters a little rinse with some cold water.

You can even give them a scrub with a sponge if you want.

You’ll then want to roll up a towel and put your thumb underneath to protect it.

Using an oyster knife, place the tip into the hinge and wiggle back and forth.

Once you feel some give and can wedge it in, twist your knife to open.

Wipe it off to avoid getting any shells in the oyster, and then go back in.

Scrape the knife along the top of the oyster to detach the top shell.

Make sure to clean off any extra bits of shell that you might find.

Find the mussel and then scrape that off for a perfectly shucked oyster.

Make sure to serve it cold over ice!
